Laura Wilson: Holy Week
Introduction by Tayler Rae Dubé, Photography by Laura Wilson
Laura Wilson stands out amongst a cycling crowd. Tall and stunningly beautiful, at first glance she looks more suited to walking on a runway than standing behind the lens. Hailing from Brooklyn with her adorable pup Franklyn in tow, Laura travels to almost every race to support her fiancée and photograph in between studying for her Master's in Photography at the School of Visual Arts. Unlike most other photographers who shoot bike races, Laura's photographs don't focus on the action. Instead, they capture the atmosphere, the people, the spirit of the sport. Honest, and at times, heart breaking beautiful, her photos show the nervousness of a start line, the pain endured while racing, the disappointment of failure, and the glory of success.
We asked Laura to document Cyclocross Holy Week for us. Drawing in competitors from all over the United States and Europe, the races during Holy Week have some of the largest fields in women's cycling.
