I’ve only been living in Los Angeles for a few months now and I already think its an amazing place to ride a bike. I’m sure a lot of people would love to argue that idea, but how can you beat year round sun, access to some gnarly climbs and fueling it with corner tacos and coco frescos? I was pretty excited to check out a cross race and see how it differed from my previous home, Portland.
CXLA did not disappoint. One of the highlighted races of the SoCalCross series, people from all over the west coast traveled to race in Los Angeles’ largest park in the Hollywood Hills.
The course was fast, dry and dusty. There is a strong sense of community and, although the numbers don’t rival those up in the Portland or on the East Coast, the passion makes up for it. No one completed a race without encouragement and a large crowd gathered at the finish line to congratulate weary riders.
I know that if I am to make Los Angeles my new home in the years to come, this is a cycling scene that I would love to be a part of.
