WINDHAM MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CUP
Photography and Words by Tayler Rae Dubé
The mountains were enough to get me excited. Coming from the city, it was a much needed breath of fresh air. But, seeing the course and feeling the buzz of being back at a bike race pumped up my heart rate. Downhill running on one course and cross country on the other, I couldn’t wait to run up in down the mountain to take photos of the action.
I was especially intrigued by the women’s cross country race. Since women rarely get the full coverage like the men’s races, it was empowering to see a UCI women’s mountain bike race in its completion. Women in their early 20s lined up against seasoned Pros, charging down rocky sections like “Little Wall” and powering up climbs. Staying focused through heckle crowds and 90 degree heat, these women left me inspired to work on my mountain bike skills.
In the end, Catharine Pendrel of the Luna team took the win. I got the chance to talk to her for a few seconds after the race and hear her talk about her experience.
